Safe and Sound

So I suppose I should give an update for all those wondering if I ever made it from Frankfurt to Helsinki. Well, I am pleased to inform you that I indeed made it without so much as a scratch, aside from my extreme case of jet-lag.

I'm ridiculously tired and my biological clock is pretty confused (I woke up at 4:50 am, not even kidding) but I was still more than happy to get out and do some things on my first day here in Finland. We went to the infamous Stockmanns where we picked up some shampoo and conditioner, which came to an insane 16 euros (thank you Awital!), opened a Finnish bank account, and got groceries. Yes, all in one store. There's also a liquor store, hair salon, cafe, and clothing department/store in Stockmanns. I've decided it's my new favorite place.

Anyway, everything is pretty fantastic here. I love where I'm living, who I'm living with, and what I'll be doing for the next year. Oh, and the best news? My luggage made it safely!

Also, here is a picture of beautiful, green Finland as seen from my window.

And this is me enjoying beautiful, green Finland.

Well, that is all for the time being. My biological clock is telling me to go to sleep. Hyvää yötä!

Frankfurt Flughafen

I'm in Germany and have come to the sad realization that my German is terrible. Seriously. I made the resolution to only speak in German while hanging out in Frankfurt and I'm pretty sure I've done nothing except annoy people. Being the polite little girl I was raised to be I told everyone danke quite genuinely. The reply I got? Hmm.

Anyway, besides that everything has gone quite smoothly. Well, unless you count the yogurt mishap. But that's a whole other story. Oh, and my gate was changed, but using the small bit of common sense within me I was able to figure things out. I had to walk to (what felt like) the other side of the country, but all is well now.

So yes, I'm ready and waiting for my final flight to Helsinki. It's a bit hot here so I changed out of my frumpy jeans and t-shirt and into a nice sundress and cardigan. I've been traveling for about twenty hours now, but a cute sundress always makes me feel refreshed and new.

Helsinki here I come!

Houston, We Have Take Off!

My blog is officially up and running just in time for my great adventure! Some tweaks still need to be made, but hey, it's a start. Now for the good stuff-  I'm currently at the Washington DC airport waiting to board for Frankfurt and then Helsinki! Super exciting, yes?
